Today, we did some more work with the Biomed students from the University. In the laboratory class, we joined them and formed groups to work on some equipment. My team got an ECG (electrocardiograph ) machine. We opened the equipment and did an visual inspection. The machine seemed to be in a good condition. We turned it on and it was working perfectly. When we were going to test it using an ECG simulator, it turned out the simulator had a dodgy connection. So we decided to work on the ECG simulator and fix it. Malfunction because of a dodgy connection is very hard to fix because there are so many possibilities. For example, lose solder on the circuit board and damaged wires are possible causes for a dodgy connection. After elaborately testing most components of the machine, it turned out to be the switch that was causing the problem. We took the switch apart on found some oxidation on the metal inside the switch. So we used sandpaper to get rid of the oxidation. Problem fixed! The machine was running perfectly again. We had a lot of fun in the group today. The BMET students are great.

After Uni, the boys decided to go and play soccer again with the BMET team from the University. It was fun to watch. Who knows, someday I might join them.

We got some gloves and face masks. We are supposted to wear them when the equipment is dirty or potentially contaminated (in the second month).

This was my group for this assigned machine. The machine in the middle is the ECG machine.
