Today, we didn’t have any lessons. Instead, we visited a hospital to have a look at some more hospital equipment and to talk to some more doctors. We got a detailed tour of the ICU’s and the laboratory of the hospital. A lot of the equipment was donated from organisations from other countries. A lot of it was quite old and has been in use for a long time. For example, there was an x-ray machine that the hospital received in 1993!! That machine has been used in the hospital before I was born! The amazing part is that this machine is the most frequently used x-ray machine. Additionally, the machine was never broken, or had to get any parts replaced. In comparison, a new x-ray machine they have received 2 years ago already require a new x-ray tube.
It was really great to see the ICU’s of the hospital. Sadly, I have never had the chance to have a detailed look at an ICU in an Australian hospital. So I’m not able to give any proper comparison.
I thought it looked great and would be happy to get treatment there myself.
The laboratory was interesting as well. It was a lot bigger than I expected it to be. There were several rooms. Each lab is used for a different kind of research.
One thing that did shock me however, was the fact that all patient records are kept on hard copy only. They literally have a whole room filled with piles of folders containing patient records.

One of the new x-ray machines.

The x-ray machine from 1993. We had to leave the room earlier than expected because it was needed for a patient.

A patient room.

A maternity room.

The archive where they keep all the patient records. There where 3 hallways like this. O.O
Two people are employed for the sole reason of storing and organising the patientrecords.
