We did a small excursion today in our lunch break. We went to the Genocide Museum of Phnom Penh and learned some more about the history of Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge regime.

We use an audio tour to learn about the S-21 secret prison. The stories we heard and read made us very sad and a few of us even shed some tears. We were allowed to take pictures of the outside area, however inside pictures were not allowed. If you are interested, here are some links where you are able to find out more about the museum and view a few more pictures:

We were lucky, the daughter of our homestay family joined us for going to the museum. She told us a few things about the Khmer Rouge. Her mother was 7 when the Khmer Rouge regime started and she has vivid memories of the time.

After the museum, we returned to the university and had our afternoon language class. After class, we returned home and had some dinner. Tonight we had not only rice and fried fish, we also had some clambs. I’ve never eater clambs cooked this way . They tasted quite good. We spontaneously decided to do a movie after dinner. We are watching “The Grand Budapest Hotel”.

Memorial at the S-21 secret prison.

Block C of the former prison. In these rooms, people were interrogated, tortured and killed.

They added the barbed wire fences after a person commited suicide by jumping from level 3.
