Day 36

Today I was working on a surgical suction machine. The machine was still working, it just needed a good clean. It was probably declared faulty because instead of having two push buttons for “on” and “off”, it only had one two way switch. Hence there was one switch and an empty hole where the other button would usually be. Simply fix: duct tape the hole and write “on” on the bottom of the two way switch. I also found another interesting machine in the equipment grave yard. It was a ventilator from Siemens. This ventilator was a 1988 model!! Sadly I didn’t have a chance to test it. All the tubes were missing. But this is a really good sign. It means that the hospital keeps all the faulty equipment and doesn’t throw any out. The hospitals used to throw away all broken equipment, even equipment that could have still been fixed. This has changed since more charitable organizations have been working in hospitals.

After work, we went for a bike ride. We wanted to go to a temple that was approximately 12 km away. Well. Long story short: After riding nearly 20km (most of it on a bumpy dirt road), we noticed we took a wrong turn on the first few kilometres. Luckily, we had some nice view and perfect timing for watching the sunset.
